PAO Janet Deutsch led a session with approximately 95 Zambian young leaders on the Washington Fellows Program application process. The Ministry of Education Bursaries Committee convened the group of students, government, civil society and business leaders who are interested in applying to the Washington Fellows Program institutes. The PAO gave examples of how to write personal statements that demonstrate leadership skills and experience. She encouraged the group to stay in contact with the Embassy through our Facebook page, even if one is not accepted for the Washington Fellows Program.

At the end of the session, she distributed information on EducationUSA Zambia services to promote study in the United States. The Washington Fellowship Program will bring as many as 25 Zambian young leaders to the United States for six weeks of leadership training and mentorship. When the Fellows return to Zambia, those leadership skills will be put to use in civil society, government, and business to promote transparency, good governance, civic responsibility, and trade.
