Remarks by Ambassador Daniel L. Foote at the Inauguration of Mylan Laboratories Facility

Remarks by Ambassador Daniel L. Foote
Inauguration of Mylan Laboratories Facility
Lusaka South Multi Facility Economic Zone, Lusaka, Zambia
September 13, 2018

 (as prepared for delivery)

Greetings to Honorable Minister of Health Chilufya, other Zambian government officials, Indian High Commissioner Gangte, other members of the diplomatic corps, senior management of Mylan Laboratories, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen.

My hearty congratulations to Mylan for this milestone in its history, and to the Zambian people who will benefit from affordable and optimal ARVs that ensure greater access to HIV/AIDS treatment.

We believe U.S. technology is the strength of the American economy and that our companies deliver exceptional value for money.  We see Mylan’s investment here as a signal of American firms’ willingness to invest in value-added manufacturing to grow the Zambian economy.

Not only will this facility provide the much needed help in the fight against HIV/AIDS, but this $10 million injection of capital will provide skilled jobs to 100 Zambian workers.

The opening of this facility is another testimony to the value close economic ties between Zambia and the United States of America, and the importance of open trade between our two countries.

The U.S. Embassy team stands ready to assist in whatever way possible to promote U.S. investment in Zambia.  Thank you and enjoy the rest of the event.
