Political Officer Matt Petit shares jazz history and music with high school students in Lusaka

Lusaka Political Officer and musician Matt Petit volunteered with the Embassy Speakers Bureau to play trombone and talk about jazz history in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month. Thirty high school music students gathered to learn about jazz music’s roots in African rhythms, its birth as an American art form, and the role musicians have played as U.S. cultural ambassadors – the same themes Matt touched on during his podcast, which PAS distributed to 59 radio stations across Zambia.

PAS staff thanked the Ngoma Dolce Music Institute for hosting the outreach event and provided the students with IIP materials on music and U.S. popular culture, as well as post-produced fliers on our social media platforms and exchange program opportunities.
