Congratulatory Message from Secretary Kerry to Zambian President Lungu

Dear Mr. President:

Congratulations on your inauguration as the sixth President of the Republic of Zambia. By upholding its democratic traditions with a free and peaceful election, Zambia serves as a model for other countries in Africa and the world. In keeping with the historic ties between the United States and Zambia, I look forward to working with you on matters of mutual interest.

I am proud of the strong and productive relationship between our two countries, and I am particularly optimistic about working with you to enhance Zambia’s economic growth. Zambia is rich with potential for U.S. and other foreign investment, so let us seize this opportunity to work together on creating the right conditions for growth.

Our two countries also have a long-standing partnership on health. Zambia has made remarkable progress in combatting HIV/AIDS and in reducing child mortality. We look forward to continued cooperation to address these critical needs in Zambia and in the region.

Again, please accept my warmest congratulations and best wishes for your presidency.

Sincerely,

John F. Kerry
