Martin “Marty” Dale is the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the U.S. Embassy in Lusaka. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Marty served as Embassy Lusaka’s Deputy Chief of Mission from July 2019 until October 2021. Previously, he was Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. and Deputy Chief of Mission for the U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Other overseas assignments include Switzerland, Iraq, Sierra Leone, Saudi Arabia, and Guyana.
In Washington, he was a Senior Congressional Advisor in the Legislative Affairs Bureau covering the NEA and CT Bureaus and a Civil Response Corps Officer in the Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations, where he deployed to Khartoum, Sudan and Juba, South Sudan. Marty speaks German and has studied Arabic.
He holds master’s degrees in Political Science and German from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) and bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and German from Simpson College (Iowa). A native of Iowa, Marty and his wife Toni have one daughter.
